residence of the cardinals during the 14th century, offers visitors a heritage that is rich in monuments and history.
Situated at the crossroads where Provence, the Cévennes, la Camargue and Languedoc Roussillon meet, it ascends from the bank of the river Rhone just across from the historical and now very cosmopolitan Papal city of Avignon.
Smaller and quieter, Villeneuve-lez-Avignon (or Villeneuve-les-Avignon as you will see it often spelt) is equally steeped in history as her close neighbour and offers a welcome retreat following a stimulating day or evening in the vibrant centre of Avignon.
The town is dominated by the impressive 14th century
Fort St.Andre, which rises up majestically behind La Chartreuse, one of the largest Carthusian monasteries ever built in France, which was founded by Pope Innocent VI.
Close to the river bank stands La Tour Phillipe le Bel, the only remaining part of the town's 13th century defensive Keep and to which the vast expanse of the famed Pont d'Avignon once joined and ended.
in Villeneuve- lez- Avignon
Of course, after all that exploring you will want to relax and here in Villeneuve-les-Avignon you'll find a good selection of restaurants throughout the town along with traditional local bars.
Avignon and all it's bustling nightlife is just a short journey away, so you can choose to suit the mood.
Villeneuve is also host to festivals during the summer months and markets all year round. The Saturday morning antique 'Brocante' and the food, clothes and craft market on a Thursday are a must to visit.
Magical view of Villeneuve-les-Avignon
This very special part of the region is, we believe, the ideal base to discover the incredible treasures that the departments of La Gard and Vaucluse have to offer.
Whether your stay with us at Les Saisons Bed and Breakfast is for one night or one week, we guarantee that it will be a memorable one.
On the hill just behind Les Saisons is a landscape painters dream! La Colline de Mourges is a naturally formed area covered with pines from where you will witness two of the most magical views in Provence.
Directly ahead as you enter the garden is the magnificent Fort St. Andre with the town below and the vast Mont Ventoux on the horizon. As you continue along the winding path you'll soon be greeted by the spectacle of Avignon with its imposing Palais de Papes jutting up into the skyline. These views along with that of the close-by village of Gordes must rank as some of the most picturesque in France.
